Just about an hours drive from Amsterdam is the charming estate of Schovenhorst. Their website calls them “the most beautiful secret of Putten”. Well it certainly wasn’t known to me and I’m glad we stumbled upon it. Each fall I look for places were we can see the most beautiful fall walks in The Netherlands, and that’s how I stumbled upon this estate. I saw this amazing photo and thought, we have to check this out!

I am so looking forward to having a drone myself, because it can give you such a different dramatic view. I love the view from this photo!
Last month, in October of 2022, we went to the estate of Schovenhorst and it did not disappoint. So today I want to share three reasons why you should visit the estate of Schovenhorst if you are here in the Fall.

1. It is stunning
The estate is stunning and is beautiful to walk around. Schovenhorst is famous for its tree garden. There are very old and rare trees that are exotic and enormous. Some of the highlights are the Japanese umbrella tree, Corsican pine and the Giant sequoiadendron. You can see a list of their Crown Jewels here.

2. Delightful Forest Tower

There is a delightful forest tower on the estate, just a short walk from the entrance. This was such a hit with our kids. You do have to pay to enter, they have a machine that you can pay with your card and then you push the turning wheel to enter. The tower has 235 steps and gives you such a great view over the estate.

Going back down they all tried out the rope that was hanging with view of the bottom. I’m not a big fan of heights but we all climbed over and had fun. There is a hole that the kids can go through and come out on the other side.

3. Fun Playground
And lastly, there is a fun play forest where kids can built huts, climb, run around and all of that good stuff. We went into the other direction so by the time we got back we went out for lunch and didnt get to it! So here is to going back another time to check that out. Here are some photos where you can see it.
